A major campaign has been launched to force Cumbria County Council to clear drains across the area. A leading local Councillor has claimed they are putting lives, homes and businesses at risk with inaction and lack of prioritisation.
Windermere Councillor Ben Berry started the campaign after witnessing the Council ignore drain clearance pleas across the District since the December floods. He commented saying:
"From Grange to Kendal, Ulverston to Windermere, I see residents becoming increasingly infuriated with Cumbria County Council who simply refuse to clear drains. This inaction is putting lives, homes and businesses at risk."
Grange and Ulverston suffered flooding in August and residents are becoming increasingly desperate for action but calls have so far fallen on deaf ears at the Council. The "Clear the drains before it rains" campaign is aiming to coordinate efforts to force Cumbria County Council into clearing drains that have been identified as blocked.
