Cumbria County Council is being urged to follow the example of the rail industry by funding a marketing campaign to mark the re-start of the marooned Windermere Ferry service which the local authority has said will be back on the water next month (October).
The call has been made by councillor James Airey who led the successful cross-party calls on Northern to pay for a marketing campaign following the disruption to rail services on the Oxenholme to Windermere line earlier this year.
Councillor James Airey, who is the Conservative group leader on Cumbria County Council, said: “It is totally right that Northern have stumped up the cash to pay for the Cumbria Tourism-led marketing campaign that will get underway this autumn following the problems on the Lakes Line of earlier this year.
“Five months on from the loss of the council-run ferry service across Lake Windermere, it is now time for Cumbria County Council to follow that example and commit to a marketing campaign for Ferry-hit communities when the service finally resumes.”
