County Matters
2017 was a year of contrasting elements especially weather wise. The extremes of our weather system are becoming even more profound with an abundance of wet weather. We have had many instances of road and property flooding across our County and also in the Grange area.
I am sure we would all wish that in 2018 that this extreme weather does abate. I have found that in these conditions neighbours and residents pull together to help each other. There have been a few instances in the past year when some people especially drivers ignore flood warnings. They have proceeded through flooded roads and caused major disruption and danger to local residents as the bow wave from their vehicles has forced water into people’s properties. This is not only inconsiderate and dangerous it can also result in putting the emergency services in danger rescuing them from abandoned and flooded cars
The County Council have put out their budget consultation document which is available on line and at your local library. The Lib/Lab Administration are recommending an increase of 3.99% for the forthcoming year 2018/19.The on line document is available at cumbria.gov.uk/budgetconsultation until Monday 8 January 2018.
As a new year starts I hope we can all help with a new year’s resolution to help a neighbour and make 2018 a year to remember.
Kindest regards
Bill Wearing
