As we start to get into Autumn the Government have
announced the giving of Covid booster jabs to the over 50’s
and vulnerable people. Alongside this has been the added
announcement of jabs for the 12 to 15 age groups
Our director of Public Health has just put out a statement
about the 12 to 15year olds vaccinations which reads:
“This week has seen the release of the national Autumn and Winter
Plan, which has a heavy emphasis on the importance of vaccination,
including of 12-15 yr olds and boosters for >50s. We have of course
been planning for this for some time, and NHS colleagues in the
school-age vaccination services is leading on running the
programme starting in the middle of next week. This is a huge task,
being rolled out quickly, so it’s a real testament to the way in which
our systems work together that it’s going to be able to get this co-
ordinated as fast as we have – my thanks to all involved. The aim is
to get this first round of vaccinations done before the October half
the term, but that’s a really tall order and we may well have some that
slip into next term.”
Local Government reforms are moving at pace and the
County Council’s Chief Executive will be undertaking the role
of Senior Responsible Officer for Local Government Reform
here in Cumbria. The CEO will be responsible for the drafting
of the Structural Change Order that will bring in two Unitary
Councils in place of the seven Councils which already operate
here in the County.
With the above happening the County Scrutiny Management
Board will also be looking at options for the governance and operations of the new authorities and will be presenting
options to the County Cabinet in December which will be
shared with our District colleagues.
As always please keep safe,
Kindest regards
Bill Wearing
