Is it GAME over?
Concern grows for four GAME shops in Cumbria
Concern is growing for retailer GAME who had trading in its shares suspended “pending clarification of the company’s financial position” this morning (21st March 2012).
The retailer has four shops in Cumbria located in Carlisle, Kendal, Barrow-in-Furness and Workington.
Its shares closed at 2.39p yesterday down from 62p last year.
Local Tory Councillor Ben Berry, who has been working to improve high street business conditions in Kendal, had this to say:
“Lots of local hard working independent retailers are struggling and going out of business on our high streets, so it’s all the more showing when a massive 1400-shop company starts to crumble.
I’m a loyal customer of GAME in Kendal and I remember when the store first opened, its going to be devastating to the staff, its customers and the high street if we lost the big name.”
All the Counties GAME shops are still trading today, although their future is cloudy.
