After months of campaigning from both sides, the Scottish Independence Referendum is finally over. On the morning of Friday 19th, it was announced that the people of Scotland had voted to remain part of the United Kingdom by 55% to 45%, with a record-breaking 84% turnout. Dr. Ann Myatt, our Parliamentary Candidate, has been supporting Conservative MP Rory Stewart's 'Hands Across the Border' project, a campaign celebrating our historic union and urging Scotland not to break away. On hearing of the success of the No campaign, Ann said:
"I am absolutely delighted by the vote in Scotland. I believe that the Union will be stronger, better and fairer as a result of the Referendum. I also believe that this was a vote for better politics in all parts of our United Kingdom. I came forward in 2009 in answer to Mr Cameron’s call ‘to help fix broken politics’. The Referendum campaign has invigorated politics on both sides of the border and shown how party divisions can be overcome in a common cause. I look forward to playing my part in making a new settlement work for people locally."
