A small group of County Councillors including myself recently went down to Warrington to inspect the North West regional Fire Service call centre. This centre takes all emergency 999 calls from four forces in the North West including Cumbria.
We were all impressed by the professionalism and efficiency of the working of the Centre. This enables Cumbria to have access to the latest technology so that we can provide the essential 365day and 24hour service for the people here.
Whilst I am mentioning our Fire and Rescue Service, can I put out a plea for more people to join our retained Fire Officers who man the vast majority of our appliances here in Cumbria. We are always looking for new recruits and if you want to join please contact them on website www.cumbriafire.gov.uk or call us on 01768 812612.
I was recently contacted about the following and thought it would be beneficial for us all to be informed.
Action Fraud has received more than 5,000 reports about fake emails and texts purporting to be from TV Licensing. The messages contain links to genuine-looking websites that are designed to steal personal and financial information.
Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information in case it’s a scam. Never automatically click on a link in an unexpected email or text.

Our refurbished County Archive service will be re-opening on the 5th March at County Hall Kendal. When the Archive Centre opens again we will facilitate access to original manuscript collections through a booking system. This is a radical departure from how the service has operated until now. This system has a number of advantages for researchers and the Archive service. The researcher will save time in not having to wait for items to be produced from the strong room and documents will be waiting when they arrive. It will also allow Archives to open for 4 days a week between 10am and 4pm rather than the current 3.
