At a recent meeting of County Councillors for South Lakeland we were given a briefing on the workings of the activity undertaken by Citizens Advice South Lakes on the money management advice contract which the County Council helps fund.
The key outcomes of the contract were to provide support for individuals in debt to an extent where their home or liberty are at risk or those whose debts are seriously affecting the health and wellbeing of the individual /family.
Also to put in place preventative activity that raises awareness of how to avoid debt, educate people about effective budgeting and money management; and support people to maximise their income.
I raised the question to them of early intervention to help our residents manage their finances better and they replied that this was their aim and that the stats showed that the majority of cases they dealt with were single persons in the age range of 25 to 50.
I would therefore encourage anyone with a debt problem to contact Citizens Advice as help is just a phone call from them New Enquiries Telephone: 03444 111 444 For Debt or On-going Enquiries Telephone: 015394 46464
Ongoing work is continuing in Windermere Road from the County Council Flood and Development Team to help alleviate the flooding in this area of our Town.
Highways have informed me that the mini roundabout near the ornamental gardens will be resurfaced this summer with an overnight closure on the area to help facilitate the work. This will be advertised well in advance to cause as little disruption as possible.
