Two Annual reports have just been issued by the County Council which will give you interesting information.
The first is the Annual Public Health Report presented to us by our Director of Public Health Colin Cox. This year Colin has put the emphasis on adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s).
This is a particularly interesting and informative read with an overarching recommendation that a Whole System approach is needed for preventing ACE’s. Interventions are required across a wide range of organisations and particular attention should be given to ensuring that there is a consistent and joined up approach to tackling ACE’s across the County.
Secondly the Cumbria Trading Standards Annual report has also been published on our web site which reported over 3000 consumer complaints actioned.

Another subject that County Councillors were recently briefed on was the issue around illegal drugs and Serious Organised Crime and the rise in the problem of “County Lines”. This highlights the transfer of illegal drugs from the large conurbations to more rural areas of the country.
The Head of Crime at Cumbria Constabulary gave us all an insight into the challenges around Serious and Organised Crime and progress Cumbria is making in responding to this with special reference to the “County Lines” problem.
A reminders to all young people living in the South Lakeland area there is a cheaper way to travel this summer by getting your A2B Nowcard on line via the County web site at cumbria.gov.uk/A2BNoW
If you are aged 5 - 18 and live in South Lakeland, your A2BNoW card allows you to travel on local buses at reduced fares.
You will pay a maximum of £ 1.80 for a single journey or £ 3.00 for a return journey. If the fare is normally less than this, you will be charged the normal fare.
This just doesn’t apply to all journeys in South Lakeland. As long as your return journey starts in South Lakeland, you can use your card to check out Barrow, Keswick, Penrith and Lancaster and all stops along the way.
